Below are highlights of some of the workshops in the past year.

  1. "Friendship Book" made on November 13, 14, 2001.
Students made a friendship book and sent it to the Public Library in New York City to extend our love and friendship to those hurting from 9/11 attack.

Visit our library to see the book they sent us!

  2. "Tuesdays with Harry" during January/February 2002
We divided into four houses just like in the book, held friendly competition, mostly trivia tidbits that the students were especially good at. Each student was encouraged to bring in items to display. Students had homework and got points for their house for doing it, and for dressing up in "Harry attire." Students learned about chess, and we held a human chess game. Kids are still talking about that!
  3. "Turning Action into Words" during April 2002.
In honor of Poetry month, we held a 2 week workshop about words and the action they can bring to our minds. We divided into three teams, cowboys, Indians, and reporters from back east. No one knew what the other team was writing, they simply had to tell their story. Many debates followed!
  4. "Poetry Contest Awards Night," May 2002.
We had 48 entries for our poetry contest. Age categories were: 3-5th, 6-8th, and High School. Winners received gift certificates from Waldenbooks, donated by the Friends of the Library! We had such success, we hope to hold this contest every year in April.
