Earlville Library District Board Meeting Minutes
EMERGENCY MEETING
10:30 AM Monday, July 13, 2026
On July 13, 2026, the meeting of the Earlville Library District Board was called to order by Vice-President Mary Bender at 10:35 a.m. at the library.
Present for the meeting were board members: Mary Bender, Stephanie Eller, Ben Hoffman, Matt Johnson, and Skip Nanzer. Ann Hecathorn and Janice Wolff were absent. Also present was Director Paige Frechmann.
Review of agenda: No additions or changes were made to the agenda.
Public participation: No public participation occurred.
New Business: This emergency meeting was called because the library’s air conditioning unit stopped functioning over the past weekend. Paige explained that the circuit had tripped, but once it was flipped back the breaker continued to trip, and when Malley’s came to look at it, the AC unit was pronounced dead. It was determined that the date marked on the unit is 1998, so it had a good run! The library’s furnace was also inspected, and due to its age, it may not be compatible with newer AC units, so the advice that Paige received from Malley’s is that it is best to replace both units (AC and furnace) at the same time. While the budget had $10,000 earmarked for repairs or replacement, the quote that Malley’s gave Paige was $15,466.19. Because we have not passed the official budget for the upcoming year yet, we can make changes to the budget to accommodate for this. Malley’s will provide a formal estimate shortly, and the owner will do the work himself to avoid conflict with prevailing wage.
Skip Nanzer motioned to increase the capital outlay budget to $20,000, Mary Bender seconded the motion, and the motion passed with a unanimous roll-call vote.
Matt Johnson motioned to purchase new AC and furnace unit(s) for the library, Ben Hoffman seconded the motion, and the motion passed with a unanimous roll-call vote.
Items for the next agenda:
- Update on the AC situation
The motion to adjourn was made by Matt Johnson, and Mary Bender seconded the motion. The motion was passed with a unanimous voice vote and the meeting was adjourned at 10:58 a.m.
Next meeting date: Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Earlville Library District.
